Why It Matters
What low MOQ actually enables for your brand
Test before you scale
50–100 units is enough to validate demand, collect real customer feedback, and identify fit issues before you commit to a 500-unit production run. Most brands that scale confidently started with a small test order.
Launch faster
A 50-unit first collection can be live in 10–12 weeks from first contact. You do not need to wait until you have capital for a large order — you can build that capital from your first small run.
More colourways, same investment
Instead of 300 units in one colour, order 100 units in three colours. You get market data on colour preference without over-committing to one option. Our multi-colourway MOQ discount makes this economical.
Control your cash flow
Small initial orders mean smaller deposits and lower inventory risk. For a new brand managing cash flow carefully, this is often the difference between being able to launch at all and waiting another year.
FAQ
Common questions about low MOQ manufacturing
What is the minimum order quantity at White Cotton?
Our minimum order quantity varies slightly by garment type: hoodies 75 units per colour (50 with 2+ colourways), t-shirts and sweatshirts 100 units per colour (75 with 2+ colourways). For samples, there is no minimum — we produce single units for approval. These are among the lowest genuine minimums from a certified European manufacturer.
Why do clothing factories have minimum order quantities?
MOQs exist because setup costs — fabric procurement, pattern cutting, machine calibration — are fixed regardless of quantity. At 50 units these fixed costs are spread across fewer pieces, making the per-unit cost higher. Factories that offer 'no MOQ' are typically print-on-demand operations (screen printing on blank garments), not cut-and-sew manufacturers producing custom-constructed garments from fabric.
Is 50 units enough to test a product?
Yes. 50 units is a meaningful market test, especially for DTC brands. It is enough to run a launch campaign, seed influencers, and gather real customer feedback on fit, quality, and demand before committing to a larger production run. We regularly work with brands doing their first 50-unit production run and then scaling to 200–500 units per style.
Are low MOQ orders more expensive per unit?
Yes — the per-unit cost at 50 units is higher than at 300 units because fixed setup costs are spread across fewer pieces. The difference is typically €4–8 per unit depending on garment complexity. However, the total investment is significantly lower, which matters more for brands testing the market. We show you pricing at each volume tier so you can plan your growth.
Can I order different styles at low MOQ?
Yes. Each style has its own MOQ. You can order 75 hoodies in one colourway and 100 t-shirts in another colourway in the same production run. We do not require you to combine styles to meet a minimum — each item type is managed separately.
Do you offer low MOQ for sustainable / organic fabrics?
Yes. Our GOTS-certified organic cotton and OEKO-TEX certified fabrics are available at the same MOQ as our standard fabrics — no premium minimums. We believe sustainable manufacturing should be accessible to small brands, not only available at large-scale production.
What garments can you produce at low MOQ?
We manufacture hoodies (pullover, zip-up, oversized), sweatshirts and crewnecks, t-shirts (heavyweight, oversized, fitted), polo shirts, shirts, outerwear (jackets, varsity), and pants (joggers, cargo). All garment types are available from our standard minimums — no garment type requires higher minimums than another.
How does low MOQ manufacturing compare to print-on-demand?
Print-on-demand uses blank garments purchased wholesale, then decorates them with your design. You have no control over fabric, weight, construction, or fit. Cut-and-sew manufacturing (what we do) builds the garment from fabric — you control everything: GSM, composition, silhouette, construction details, labels, packaging. The product is entirely yours. The trade-off is the minimum order. For brands serious about product quality and brand identity, cut-and-sew wins every time.
How do I negotiate a lower MOQ?
The main levers are: ordering multiple colourways of the same style (we drop the per-colour minimum), committing to a reorder schedule, or starting with simpler construction (fewer seam types, fewer panels). We are transparent about what drives our minimums — talk to us and we will find the most efficient path for your specific project.
Can I reorder at low MOQ once I run out?
Yes. Reorders use the same MOQs as initial orders. We keep your patterns and specifications on file, which makes reorders faster and cheaper — typically 4–5 weeks turnaround versus 8–12 weeks for a first order.
