Why Manufacture Clothing in Portugal?

Portugal has been a centre of European textile production for over two centuries. The northern region around Porto and Barcelos is home to one of the densest clusters of garment factories on the continent, with a skilled workforce that has been cutting and sewing for generations. When you manufacture in Portugal, you are tapping into a tradition of quality craftsmanship that few countries can match.

Unlike manufacturing in Asia, working with a Portuguese factory means operating under full EU quality and safety standards. Every fabric we use is OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it has been independently tested for harmful substances. We also offer GOTS-certified organic cotton for brands that require the highest sustainability credentials. EU workplace regulations ensure fair labour conditions throughout the production process.

Proximity matters. For European brands, manufacturing in Portugal means lead times of days rather than weeks for shipping. There are no customs delays, no import duties within the EU, and no 30-day container voyages. If there is a problem, you can fly to Porto in a few hours and be at our factory the same day. This proximity also makes it practical to start with smaller quantities and scale up — something that is difficult when your factory is 8,000 kilometres away.

Pricing in Portugal is competitive compared to the rest of Western Europe. While we are not the cheapest option globally, our prices are 20–40% lower than manufacturing in France, Italy, or the UK, with comparable or better quality. When you factor in shipping costs, customs fees, and the risk of quality issues with distant suppliers, Portuguese manufacturing often works out more economical than it first appears.

Our team is fully English-speaking, which eliminates the communication barriers that plague many manufacturer relationships. Every email, call, and factory visit happens in English. We provide detailed quotations, regular production updates, and full transparency into our processes. You always know exactly where your order stands.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity?

Our minimum order quantity is 50 units per style and colour. This applies to all garment types — hoodies, t-shirts, sweatshirts, outerwear, shirts, and pants. For first orders, we recommend starting with one or two styles to test fit and quality before scaling up.

How long does production take?

Standard production takes 4–6 weeks from sample approval to delivery. Sampling itself takes 1–2 weeks. Rush orders may be possible depending on factory capacity. Lead times can vary during peak season (August–November), so we recommend planning 8–10 weeks ahead for holiday collections.

Why choose Portugal over China or Turkey?

Portugal offers the best balance of quality, price, and proximity for European brands. You get EU-certified production with OEKO-TEX and GOTS standards, shorter lead times (no 30-day shipping from Asia), easier communication in the same timezone, lower minimum order quantities, and the ability to visit the factory in person. Portugal's textile industry has centuries of heritage and a highly skilled workforce.

What certifications do you hold?

We hold OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, meaning every fabric we use has been tested for harmful substances. We also work with GOTS-certified organic cotton and BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) materials. Our factory follows EU workplace and environmental regulations, and we can provide full traceability documentation for every order.

Can I visit the factory?

Absolutely. We welcome factory visits and encourage them. Our facility is in Barcelos, in the heart of Portugal's textile region, about 45 minutes from Porto airport. We can arrange a full tour of our cutting, sewing, and finishing departments. Many of our clients visit before their first production run to see the operation firsthand.

How does pricing work?

Pricing depends on garment type, fabric weight and composition, decoration techniques, and order quantity. We provide detailed quotations within 48 hours of receiving your tech pack or design brief. As a factory-direct manufacturer with no middlemen, our prices are 20–40% lower than agencies or trading companies. Volume discounts apply for orders above 200 units.

What garments can you manufacture?

We manufacture a full range of casual and streetwear apparel: hoodies (pullover and zip-up), sweatshirts and crewnecks, t-shirts and long sleeves, shirts (overshirts, flannel, button-down), outerwear (jackets, varsity, sherpa), and pants (joggers, cargo, shorts). We currently produce 38+ styles across these categories.

Do you handle fabric sourcing?

Yes, we offer full-package manufacturing which includes fabric sourcing. We work with trusted European mills and can source organic cotton, French terry, fleece, sherpa, corduroy, denim, and more. If you have a specific fabric supplier you prefer, we can also work with client-supplied materials. We maintain a library of 15+ fabric types ready for sampling.
