Dimensional Stability

Definition

A fabric's ability to maintain its original dimensions after washing, drying, and wearing. Poor dimensional stability results in shrinkage or growth, causing garments to change size unpredictably. Testing involves measuring a marked fabric sample before and after controlled washing/drying cycles. Acceptable shrinkage for most garments is within +/- 3% in both warp and weft directions.
