Seam Slippage

Definition

A defect where the yarns in a fabric pull apart at a seam under stress, creating visible gaps between the stitching line and the fabric threads. Seam slippage is common in low-thread-count or loosely woven fabrics and is tested by applying force perpendicular to the seam. Prevention methods include using appropriate seam allowances, correct needle size, proper stitch density, and choosing fabrics with adequate yarn-to-yarn friction.
