Selvedge
Definition
The self-finished edge of a fabric where the weft yarn loops back into the weave, preventing fraying. Selvedge denim is woven on narrow shuttle looms (typically 75-80 cm wide) rather than modern projectile looms, producing a tighter, denser fabric. The clean selvedge edge is a mark of quality and is often visible when jeans are cuffed — a detail sought after by premium denim brands.
