Why Portugal

Why Manufacture Joggers in Portugal?

Joggers and sweatpants have become the backbone of modern streetwear and athleisure collections. Whether your brand sells matching tracksuit sets, standalone joggers, or technical sweatpants, Portugal offers the ideal manufacturing base: OEKO-TEX certified fabrics, skilled cut-and-sew operators who understand the precision required for elastic waistbands and tapered legs, and proximity to European markets with no customs delays.

Northern Portugal — particularly the Barcelos and Guimaraes region — is one of Europe's densest garment manufacturing clusters. Our factory specialises in fleece-based garments: hoodies, sweatshirts, and joggers. This means we have deep expertise in the fabrics, constructions, and finishing techniques that make joggers perform well — from consistent elastic tension in waistbands to reinforced bartack stitching on pockets that withstand years of wear.

For brands that sell jogger and hoodie sets, manufacturing both pieces in the same factory guarantees colour consistency. When your joggers and hoodies come from different suppliers, dye lot variations are inevitable. By producing the full set under one roof, every piece is cut from the same fabric roll, dyed in the same bath, and finished with the same trims. The result is a matched set that looks and feels cohesive.

Our minimum order of 50 units per style makes it practical to test multiple fits — tapered, straight-leg, relaxed — without committing to thousands of units. Most brands start with one hero jogger in two or three colourways, validate the market response, and scale from there. This lean approach to product development is only possible when your manufacturer supports low minimums without compromising quality.

Fabric Guide

French Terry vs Brushed Fleece for Joggers

The two primary fabrics for jogger manufacturing are French terry and brushed fleece. Understanding the difference is essential for choosing the right fabric for your collection.

French terry has a smooth outer face and looped inner pile. The loops create air pockets that provide insulation without trapping heat, making French terry joggers comfortable in a wide temperature range. At 280-380 GSM, these are your everyday joggers — lightweight enough for spring and summer, warm enough for mild winters. French terry is also more breathable than brushed fleece, making it the better choice for active use or warmer climates. Most brands use French terry as their core, year-round jogger fabric.

Brushed fleece starts as French terry, then undergoes a brushing process that breaks the loops into a soft, fuzzy pile on the interior. This creates a warmer, heavier fabric at 320-500 GSM. Brushed fleece joggers are the go-to for winter collections, premium lines, and heavyweight streetwear. The brushed interior gives a noticeably cosier feel against the skin. The trade-off is that brushed fleece is less breathable and heavier, making it less versatile for year-round wear.

Polycotton fleece blends cotton with polyester (typically 80/20 or 50/50) for improved durability, less shrinkage, and lower cost at volume. It is the practical option for promotional joggers, team uniforms, and budget-conscious collections. The polyester content helps the joggers hold their shape and colour over repeated washes.

Construction Details

Jogger Features & Construction

Elastic Waistband with Drawstring

Every jogger we produce features a covered elastic waistband with a flat or round drawstring. We offer multiple waistband widths — from a slim 3 cm sport band to a wide 6 cm comfort band. Drawstring options include flat woven tape, round cord, and custom-tipped metal or silicone aglets.

Side Pockets & Back Pockets

Standard joggers include two side seam pockets with reinforced bartack stitching. Optional additions include rear welt pockets, cargo pockets, zippered pockets for security, and hidden phone pockets with internal cable routing. Pocket bags are cut from lightweight poly-cotton for reduced bulk.

Ribbed Cuffs & Ankle Detail

Tapered joggers feature 1x1 or 2x2 ribbed ankle cuffs that hold the leg in place without cutting off circulation. Rib height is adjustable from 5 cm to 10 cm. For straight-leg styles, we offer raw-edge hems, turned hems, or optional elastic ankle gathers. All ribs are knitted to match the body fabric colour.

Tapered vs Straight Leg

We manufacture both tapered and straight-leg silhouettes. Tapered joggers narrow from the knee to the ankle — the standard for modern streetwear and athleisure. Straight-leg joggers offer a relaxed, vintage aesthetic. We can adjust the degree of taper to match your brand's preferred fit, from aggressive slim to gentle narrowing.

Matching Hoodie Sets

Jogger and hoodie sets are produced from the same fabric roll to guarantee colour and texture consistency across the set. We coordinate every detail — same dye lot, matching ribbing, identical labels and trims. Available as pullover or zip-up hoodie pairings. Sets are our fastest-growing product category.

Custom Branding & Labels

Full custom branding is included: woven main labels, printed care labels, hang tags, and custom packaging. Jogger-specific branding placements include waistband labels, rear centre labels, drawstring aglets with logo emboss, and custom zipper pulls on pocket zips.

From Idea to Delivery

How It Works

01

Send Your Design

Share your jogger tech pack, sketches, or reference images. Tell us about your preferred fabric, weight, fit (tapered or straight), and whether you need matching sets. We accept designs at any stage — from a rough concept to a full specification sheet.

02

Receive Quotation

Within 48 hours, you receive a detailed quotation covering fabric, trims, elastic, drawstrings, decoration, and production. If you are ordering matching sets, we quote the jogger and hoodie together with a combined price. No hidden costs.

03

Approve Sample

We produce a physical sample jogger for your approval. You review the fit, rise, taper, waistband comfort, pocket placement, and fabric hand-feel. Adjustments are included — we iterate until the sample matches your vision. For sets, both pieces are sampled together.

04

Full Production

Once approved, production begins. We handle cutting, sewing, elastic insertion, finishing, quality control, labelling, and packaging. Each jogger is inspected for even seams, consistent elastic tension, and correct measurements. Your finished goods ship directly to your warehouse.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best fabric for joggers?

French terry is the most popular fabric for joggers. It has a smooth outer face and looped inner pile that provides comfort without excessive warmth — ideal for year-round wear. For winter or heavyweight joggers, brushed fleece offers a soft, insulating interior. Polycotton fleece is a cost-effective option for volume orders, offering good shape retention and less shrinkage than pure cotton.

What is the difference between French terry and brushed fleece for joggers?

French terry has loops on the inside and a smooth exterior — it is lighter, more breathable, and works well in spring, summer, and transitional weather. Brushed fleece has a soft, fuzzy interior created by brushing the loops — it is warmer, heavier, and better suited for autumn and winter. Most brands offer French terry joggers as their core product and brushed fleece as a seasonal heavyweight option.

Can you produce matching jogger and hoodie sets?

Yes. Matching sets are one of our most requested products. We manufacture jogger and hoodie combos using the same fabric, colour, and weight to ensure a perfect match across the set. This includes consistent dyeing, identical trims, and coordinated labelling. Many of our clients launch their collections as full tracksuit sets — jogger plus pullover or zip-up hoodie.

What is the difference between tapered and straight-leg joggers?

Tapered joggers narrow from the knee to the ankle, creating a slim, modern silhouette. They are the most popular cut in streetwear and athleisure. Straight-leg joggers have a consistent width from hip to ankle, offering a relaxed, vintage-inspired fit. We can manufacture both cuts and adjust the taper angle to match your brand's fit preference — from a strong taper to a subtle narrowing.

Do joggers bag out at the knees over time?

Knee bagging depends on fabric composition and construction. Pure cotton joggers are more prone to stretching at the knees. To minimise this, we recommend fabrics with a small percentage of elastane (2-5%) which provides recovery — the fabric stretches during wear but returns to shape after washing. Brushed fleece with polyester content also holds its shape better than 100% cotton. Proper pattern construction with articulated knee panels can further reduce bagging.

Can you embroider or print on joggers?

Yes. We offer all our decoration techniques on joggers: embroidery (thigh, hip, rear pocket), screen printing, DTG printing, heat transfers, and woven patches. The most common placement for joggers is a small logo on the left thigh or hip. For matching sets, we ensure the decoration positioning is coordinated between the jogger and hoodie. Heavy embroidery works best on fleece-weight joggers (320 GSM+) to avoid fabric distortion.

What is the minimum order quantity for joggers?

Our minimum order quantity is 50 units per style and colour. This applies to all jogger variations — tapered, straight-leg, shorts, and matching sets. For sets, the MOQ applies per piece: 50 joggers and 50 hoodies can be ordered as a combined set order of 50 units. We recommend starting with one or two colourways to test the market before scaling up.

What GSM range is available for joggers?

We manufacture joggers from 280 GSM to 500 GSM. Lightweight joggers (280-320 GSM) in French terry are ideal for spring/summer and active use. Mid-weight joggers (320-380 GSM) are the most popular for year-round streetwear. Heavyweight joggers (400-500 GSM) in brushed fleece deliver a premium, substantial feel suited for winter collections and luxury positioning.
