Chenille

Definition

A textured embroidery technique using looped chain-stitch embroidery that is then cut to create a fuzzy, velvet-like pile surface. Chenille is the signature look of varsity letters and letterman jackets. Producing chenille requires a specialised embroidery machine (Cornely or similar) and skilled operators. It is frequently combined with felt appliqué for the classic American collegiate aesthetic.
