Spreading
Definition
The process of laying fabric in multiple layers (plies) on the cutting table prior to cutting. Spreading can be done manually or with automated spreading machines that control tension, alignment, and layer count. Proper spreading ensures all layers are wrinkle-free, correctly tensioned, and aligned at the selvedge. A typical spread for a medium order might be 50-150 layers of fabric.
