Lay Plan
Definition
The specification for how fabric is spread on the cutting table before cutting — including number of layers (plies), fabric direction (face up, face to face), and lay length. A well-planned lay optimises cutting efficiency and ensures pattern pieces respect fabric grain, nap direction, and print repeat. Lay planning works in conjunction with marker making to minimise waste.
