The Challenge

The Challenge

The brand had a tight seasonal window — they needed to go from approved designs to finished goods in 7 weeks to hit their SS launch date. Their collection featured lightweight linen shirts that required careful handling during production (linen frays easily and shifts during cutting) and screen-printed cotton shorts with a water-based ink that needed to feel invisible on the fabric. Previous seasons had been plagued by linen shrinkage issues and stiff-feeling prints.

Our Approach

Our Solution

White Cotton pre-washed all linen fabric before cutting to eliminate post-production shrinkage — a step that adds two days but saves the brand from customer complaints. We cut the linen using single-ply laser cutting for precision on the loosely woven fabric, and constructed the camp collar shirts with French seams for a clean interior finish. The cotton shorts used 460 GSM organic cotton with water-based screen printing, followed by a silicone softener wash so the print was undetectable by touch.

Step by Step

The Process

01

Fabric Preparation

Pre-washed all linen yardage at 40°C and tumble-dried to trigger maximum shrinkage before cutting. Measured shrinkage at 6% warp / 4% weft and adjusted patterns accordingly. Organic cotton for shorts was pre-shrunk at our knitting partner.

02

Pattern Adjustment & Cutting

Compensated patterns for linen shrinkage. Cut linen using single-ply laser cutting to prevent fraying and fabric shift. Cotton shorts cut in stacked lays of 30 with rotary blade.

03

Construction

Assembled camp collar shirts with French seams throughout, mother-of-pearl buttons, and a box pleat at the back yoke. Shorts featured a drawstring elastic waist, side pockets, and a single back patch pocket.

04

Screen Printing & Finishing

Screen printed the shorts using water-based inks across 4 colourways with a 6-colour design. Applied a silicone softener wash to the printed shorts so the ink was soft to the touch. Pressed all linen shirts on steam forms.

05

Seasonal Packaging

Packed each garment in compostable cellophane with a custom printed belly band. Included seasonal lookbook postcards. Shipped in branded corrugated boxes to the brand's Barcelona showroom and Shopify fulfilment centre.

Outcomes

Results

  • Zero shrinkage complaints from end customers — the pre-wash protocol eliminated the issue that had affected 8% of units in previous seasons
  • The screen-printed shorts became the collection's best-seller, with customers specifically praising the 'invisible print feel' in reviews
  • Hit the SS launch date with two days to spare despite the compressed timeline — the brand's buyer said it was their first on-time seasonal delivery in three years
  • Wholesale accounts reordered mid-season, and White Cotton fulfilled a 150-unit top-up order in 2.5 weeks

Client Testimonial

Linen is a nightmare fabric for most factories — the shrinkage, the fraying, the pressing. White Cotton pre-washes everything, cuts single-ply, and delivers shirts that look the same after ten washes as they did in the showroom. And the softener wash on the printed shorts? Our customers literally can't feel the print. That's the kind of detail that justifies a premium price.
