Pattern Making

Definition

The process of creating the flat templates (patterns) from which fabric is cut to construct a garment. Pattern makers translate a designer's sketch and measurements into precise 2D shapes that, when sewn together, form the intended 3D garment. Modern pattern making uses CAD software (Gerber, Lectra, Optitex) alongside traditional draping and flat-pattern techniques. It is one of the most skilled roles in manufacturing.
