The Private Label Model
What Is Private Label Manufacturing?
Private label manufacturing means you own the brand — we own the production. You bring your designs, your logo, and your brand identity. We turn them into finished garments that look, feel, and ship as if they came from your own factory. White Cotton never appears on the final product. Every label, every tag, every piece of packaging carries your name.
This model is how most successful fashion brands operate. Rather than investing millions in factory equipment, workforce, and raw material supply chains, you focus on what makes your brand unique — design, marketing, and customer experience — while a manufacturing partner handles the production. You get factory-quality garments without factory-level overhead.
At White Cotton, private label is not an afterthought — it is our core service. We work with emerging streetwear labels, established fashion brands, corporate uniform programmes, and e-commerce startups across Europe and beyond. Whether you need 50 custom hoodies for a capsule drop or 5,000 units across a full seasonal collection, our private label service scales to your needs.
The key difference between private label and white label is control. With white label, you choose from existing blank garments and add your logo. With private label, you control everything — the fabric, the fit, the construction details, the trim, and every piece of branding that touches the garment. Private label is your product, built from scratch to your specifications.
Location Advantages
Why Portugal for Private Label Clothing?
Portugal is Europe's premier destination for private label clothing production. The northern textile belt — stretching from Porto through Barcelos and Guimaraes — is home to hundreds of garment factories with deep expertise in custom manufacturing. When you private label in Portugal, you get EU-certified quality, short lead times, and a manufacturing partner you can visit in person.
For brands selling within the EU, manufacturing in Portugal eliminates customs duties, simplifies compliance, and allows you to label your products "Made in Portugal" — a quality mark that carries weight with consumers. Shipping times are measured in days, not weeks. If a label colour needs adjusting or a hang tag design needs updating, we can turn it around in a single production cycle.
Our factory in Barcelos sits at the heart of this textile cluster, with access to fabric mills, label producers, trim suppliers, and packaging companies — all within a short drive. This local supply chain means faster turnaround on custom branding elements and lower costs compared to sourcing labels or packaging from overseas. Your private label project benefits from an entire ecosystem built around garment production.

Common Questions
Private Label FAQ
What is private label manufacturing?
Private label manufacturing means we produce garments that carry your brand identity — not ours. You provide the designs, and we handle everything from fabric sourcing to finished product. Every item ships with your labels, your hang tags, your packaging, and your care instructions. White Cotton never appears on the final product. Your customers see only your brand.
What branding elements can I customize?
You have full control over every branding touchpoint: woven main labels (brand name, logo, size), printed care labels (washing instructions, composition, country of origin), hang tags and swing tags, custom packaging (polybags, tissue paper, boxes), neck labels or printed neck transfers, hem tags, zipper pulls, and custom buttons or rivets. We can also add custom embroidery, screen printing, or other decoration with your brand artwork.
Do you handle label printing and production?
Yes, we manage the entire labelling process in-house and through trusted local suppliers. We produce woven labels, printed satin labels, heat-transfer neck labels, hang tags, and care labels. You send us your artwork files (vector format preferred) and we handle the rest — from label sampling to sewing them into your garments. Label costs are included in your quotation with no hidden fees.
Can I use my own packaging?
Absolutely. You can supply your own packaging materials (boxes, mailers, tissue paper, stickers) and we will pack each garment according to your specifications. Alternatively, we can source custom packaging on your behalf — branded polybags, printed tissue paper, custom boxes, or eco-friendly kraft mailers. We accommodate any packaging workflow your brand requires.
What is the minimum order quantity for private label?
Our minimum order quantity for private label production is 50 units per style and colour. This includes full branding — your labels, your tags, and your packaging. For first orders, we recommend starting with one or two styles to validate fit and branding before scaling. There is no separate MOQ for labels or packaging — everything is bundled into the per-unit price.
How does private label pricing differ from white label?
Private label pricing includes the cost of custom labels, hang tags, care labels, and any branded packaging. This typically adds a small premium per unit compared to a plain white label order — usually between 0.30 and 1.50 EUR per garment depending on the complexity of your branding package. The core garment production cost remains the same. We break down every line item in your quotation so you see exactly what the branding adds.
What documentation do I receive with my order?
Every private label order comes with full documentation: a detailed packing list, commercial invoice, certificate of origin (if needed for export), OEKO-TEX certification for the fabrics used, composition and care instruction details, and quality control reports. If you need specific compliance documentation for your market (such as EU textile labelling regulation or US FTC requirements), we prepare that as well.
Can I start with a sample before committing to bulk?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it. Before any bulk production, we produce a branded sample with your actual labels, tags, and packaging so you can review every detail. You approve the fit, fabric, colour, decoration, and branding elements before we proceed. Sample adjustments are included. We do not start production until you are completely satisfied with the sample.
